| | | | | | | | | | Hello and welcome! Yesterday morning I posted a question on Practical Photography's Facebook page. It proved rather divisive and split opinion right down the middle. The question was: at what point does photography become art? With the Turner Prize show grabbing headlines (it never fails to ruffle feathers), it seemed a pertinent subject to probe. Arguably the most insightful reply was courtesy of Craig Hunter, who said: "I see art as freedom of expression so I would say right from the start." Others asked, what is art? How do we define it? What do you think? Have your say here. In the meantime, you can take advantage of a very special subscription offer, read about the latest camera launches, and sign up to a free camera course that offers expert feedback on your images. There's also a £5000 first prize up for grabs in eHarmony's photo competition, which I'm looking forward to judging in January 2014. Have a great weekend, | | Ben Editor, Practical Photography | | | | | | | | | |

Sony has upped the ante with news of the first mirrorless compact system cameras (CSC) with a full-frame sensor. The first two A7-series models, the A7 and A7R, feature newly developed CMOS sensor technology that delivers 24.3MP and 36.4MP respectively, and a new BIONZ X processor, which Sony claims delivers 3x faster processing speed and features a new area-specific noise reduction function. Keep your eyes peeled for full reviews.
