Wednesday 06 November 2013

The main product news this week is, of course, the introduction of Nikon's Df DSLR. At the press event we managed to get our hands on a sample model and you read our first thoughts about it here.

In other news, there's been the remarkable discovery – on eBay of all places – of a rare radio interview with legendary war photographer Robert Capa. It's doubly important because there's no known television footage to allow us to get a sense of the real-life man rather than the icon.

That was in the United States, over here there growing revival in the popularity of film has prompted the opening of a brand new darkroom to be located at Kensington and Chelsea College.

We're also asking Pentax fans to tweet #WhyIlovepentax to our Twitter account @ap_magazine to let us know what you love about your camera. As an incentive, there's £500 in Park Camera vouchers to win if you do. And that's worth tweeting about.

Don't forget, too, there's still time to enter our Christmas Cover Competition. You've got until 30 November to send us a shot you think typifies the festive season for the cover of the Christmas edition of AP. If yours is chosen, as well as the thrill of seeing your photo on the cover, you'll also win a monopod and rucksack, plus £200!

With Christmas in mind, I'll point you in the direction of our 23 November issue. That's right, it is our Christmas gift guide issue. It's brimming with ideas from practical to fun, more expensive to very affordable. So, if you want to see the catchlights in their eyes come Christmas morning, you know where to start.

Finally, a little plug. This Sunday coming (9 November) you'll find me at the Birimingham branch of Jessops where I'll be hosting two workshops for a special Pentax kit day. The morning session is all about street photography, while in the afternoon I'll be looking at natural-light portraiture. I'd love to see you there but places are limited. If you'd like to know more here's a link to the Jessops online page with booking details.

Bye for now

Reader Gallery Online Photo Of The Week

AP's art editor chooses his favourite reader image from the past week's uploads to our Reader Gallery.

'My choice this week is rather apt. Alf Bailey tells us that 'Resident Evil' "...was not staged in any way, its just a scary street shot".  I can say it gave me a fright and reminded me of Danny Boyle's stage production of Frankenstein. A well-spotted image of this unfortunate gentleman for Halloween. Well done Alf..'
