Tuesday 19 November 2013

It's been fairly quiet in terms of product news over the past week. However, in a further sign that  photography is returning to the high street, retailer Park Cameras has announced that it is to open a new store in London and in time for Christmas.

In copyright news, in New York a photographer has taken on agency giants Getty Images and Agence France Presse (AFP) in what could prove to be an historic legal trial.

Back here, we have a fantastic new competition, where not only could you win a custom smartphone case featuring your own photo, but everyone who enters will receive a three-month digital subscription to Amateur Photographer totally free! Check it out here.

And, with the festive season approaching fast, now is the time many people start buying presents. So, we've put together a range of Christmas buying guides, covering everything from calendars, to books, to novelty gifts. We've even rounded up the best gloves for photographers  to allow them to keep shooting in the cold weather. See the full list of Xmas round ups on our website.

That's it for this week.

Reader Gallery Online Photo Of The Week

AP's art editor chooses his favourite reader image from the past week's uploads to our Reader Gallery.

Not being a huge fan of wildlife photography my choice this week was something of a surprise to me. 'Badgerman' AKA Colin, a longtime AP forum contributor, posted a number of shots of his favourite subjects including, of course, a badger. But the image that caught my eye appears almost 3D - like a lenticular print - on my screen. The background has been thrown so far out of focus that the subject appears to float above it. For this reason - along with the composition and detail - my choice this week is 'Blue Tit' by Badgerman. Well done, Colin
