Welcome to the latest AP newsletter. There's been a couple of lens-related announcements made over the past few days. Tamron has announced that it is to develop a 150-600mm ultra-telephoto zoom lens for DSLRs, while Ricoh Imaging has unveiled a brace of Pentax lenses.

Elsewhere, Leica has opened up a pop-up shop in London's Mayfair on the site where its permanent will open next year.

Meanwhile, Nikon has been forced to defend its pricing policy for the new Df. The UK price is substantially higher than in the United States.

Here's a note for your diary. Dennis Hopper: The Lost Album, a collection images of images by the late actor (found after his death) – who actually played an American photojournalist in Apocalypse Now is to be exhibited in London. His creativity went beyond acting - he was a painter and a very accomplished photographer and if the images here and in the press are anything to go by then the show will be well worth a visit.

We're making a few improvements to our discussion forums, including adding some new boards. The lastest addition is a Smartphone photography discussion board. Whilst smartphone photography isn't a hit with all of our readers, if you're interested in the subject, make your presence known in our new smartphone photography board.

Don't forget to check out the latest issue of AP, which features a free 24-page supplement: Your essential guide to the new camera launches of 2013

Finally, just to let you know, AP can now be downloaded to andriod devices via Google Play.

That's all for now.

Reader Gallery Online Photo Of The Week

AP's art editor chooses his favourite reader image from the past week's uploads to our Reader Gallery.

I usually make a selection of my potential favourites throughout the week without reference to who the photographer is. When I came to make my final decision this week, I was surprised to find that three of the five images I had chosen were by the same photographer, Tony Cook. Each one is completely different from the other. Despite nearly being swayed by Tony's 'Passion flowers', I've decided to stick with the image that first caught my eye, 'Portsmouth-Bilbao ferry'. It's a detail of a ferry bulkhead, and it immediately reminded me of a series of paintings called 'Protractor Series '67-'71' by American artist Frank Stella. A nicely spotted minimalist abstract, Tony.
