Long Exposure Photography Training Bundle Deal

Long exposure photography is when a photographer uses specific techniques, like extended shutter speeds and specialty filters, in order to create an effect in a photograph. Often times the same technique is used to remove moving objects from a scene. For example, removing moving people and cars from a busy city intersection. The long exposure technique is most noticeable when fast-moving water, like waterfalls and ocean waves, are smoother than when normally captured by a camera.

What's in the long exposure photography eBook? (55 pages)

  • 7 chapters giving you all the techniques & gear advice you'll need
  • A portfolio of how to work with neutral density filters
  • A summary of the most optimal camera settings
  • Tons of photographic examples to gauge your work
  • A workflow mapped inside a checklist
  • Over 160 post processing Lightroom & onOne Software presets compliment your long exposure photography.

Cameras and settings, tripods, neutral density filters, cable releases, wireless triggers, iPhone and Android apps, white balance tools, viewfinder covers, GPS units, calculations, water, color shifting, and so much more.

A Photographer’s Impressive First Timelapse Project Exploring Jersey For 10 Months (Video)

Posted: 05 Dec 2013 03:30 PM PST

There are many, many traits needed to be a successful photographer. One of the most important of these is patience. Photographers need patience to learn their camera, their subject, their lighting, and their environment. They also need it to deal with clients, find time to shoot for themselves, and progress in the industry. Lastly, photographers sometimes need patience just to capture the beauty around them. Great moments don’t always last a second or a minute. Sometimes they last hours, days, or weeks. Photographer Jack Fusco knows this kind of patience. After ten months, 40+ hours of shooting, and over 5,000 photos later, Fusco has created a beautiful timelapse entitled Home At The Shore:

Fusco’s patience has definitely paid off as many sites have picked up his video including Universe Today and National Geographic.

Tips for Night Time Timelapses:

  • Scout Locations At Night – This may seem obvious, but even though a scene may look beautiful during the day, it may not be so much at night, and vice versa. Try to scout all your locations beforehand so you can get an idea of the lighting and surroundings.
  • Watch the Weather – If stars are what you’re after, you’ll want to avoid cloudy nights. Also be sure to check the moon phases if you’re looking to capture it or if you need it to light up your scene.
  • Test Your Shutter Speed – You’ll most likely need a slow shutter speed since you’re shooting at night, but do some test shots to see how it will affect your scene. A long shutter speed will blur stars (among other moving objects) which you may or may or may not want.
  • Be Patient – Not every shoot will go the way you plan. Clouds may come in out of nowhere or your lens may fog over in the middle of your shoot. But be persistent and patient and you’ll find what you’re after.

Subtle camera movements that match the flow of the music can create an engaging timelapse

Remember that you don’t have to do everything at once. Break your projects up into chunks to make them more manageable. Planning, shooting, and editing don’t all have to take place within a week or even a month.

Photographer Brings Woman’s Photo Shoot Dream to Life (Video)

Posted: 05 Dec 2013 11:15 AM PST

Benjamin Von Wong is a busy photographer. His schedule is packed with fantastical photo shoots and highly sought-after workshops. So when his agent received a curious email in September, he wasn’t sure what to do. He didn’t have much time, but he couldn’t say no to the sender’s shy request:

The email was from Nicole Mackenzie, a 54-year-old writer in Montreal. She’d seen images of her tango teachers taken by Von Wong, and she wanted him to make her look beautiful. Most importantly she didn’t want to look sick. Mackenzie was facing a grave illness. She wanted photographs of herself before she lost too much weight.

She didn’t expect to get a response. Or, if she did get one, she thought the answer would be no. So she was delighted when the phone rang and the photographer she adored was on the other end. Von Wong scheduled a time to meet with Mackenzie, and he took on the challenge of putting the essence of this wonderful, reserved, nature-lover into a photograph.

As the two talked, everything came together. The set needed to be whimsical. It needed to bring Mackenzie’s fantasy world to life. A tree with lanterns hanging from its branches. Her rug and writing desk. Books on bookshelves outdoors. A dramatic sky. What started as a short, hopeful note became a huge photo shoot for a crew of ten people, including a videographer, a hairdresser, a makeup artist, and several assistants.

As with all of Von Wong’s photo shoots, Mackenzie’s day in front of the camera was epic. Every detail helped bring her dream world to life. She posed amid piles of books. She climbed into a tree. And all the while she felt like a star. All of the images were breathtaking. They exuded Mackenzie’s spirit and beauty.

Sometimes the once-in-a-lifetime experience offered by a photographer is even more important than the final product. When told that the photos would be edited before they were sent to her, she responded by saying that the photos weren’t actually all that important anymore. She’d had a magical day, thanks to Von Wong and his talented crew, and that was what she needed.

“The day was probably one of the best days of my life.”
