Tuesday 24 September 2013

Well, there's been a world's first this week. Nikon has announced its AW1 underwater camera, with an interchangeable lens (that's the world's first bit). We've already taken a initial look at it and you can read Richard Sibley's thoughts here.

Elsewhere, Adobe has released an upgrade to Photoshop Elements for 'the photographer on the go'.

That's about it in terms of equipment and software, but there's lots of other interesting stuff. For instance, a slew of competitions have revealed their winners - the Royal Observatory Greenwich has named its Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2013, a British photographer has triumphed in the Epson International Pano Awards and, last but certainly not least, the winning images in our very own Ricoh competition have been announced. You can see more here.

There's good news for photography lovers in north east England in the form of a new international festival called The Social: Encountering Photography.

Finally, a sad note - Top of the Pops photographer Harry Goodwin has died aged 89.
