Just when you thought digital cameras couldn't get any better along come some better ones! We've just published our review of the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and we can say with confidence that it's not only the best camera that Olympus has ever produced, but it's one of the best enthusiast cameras you can buy, full stop. Its professional level build quality, excellent image quality and the best electronic viewfinder we've ever seen have made it a firm favourite in the WDC office. There are times when we don't want to lug a proper camera around and we'd rather just use the camera on our phones, but the results are often just not good enough. So step forward the Nokia Lumia 1020, the latest Windows 8 phone with a huge 41MP sensor, optical image stabilisation, and an unprecedented level of manual control. The images have to be seen to be appreciated, which is why we think it's the phone that every serious photographer will want to own. Read our review, or enter our competition to win one. Bridge cameras continue to grow in popularity, and so do their maximum zoom magnifications. The new Panasonic Lumix FZ72 is a case in point, with its record-breaking 60x optical zoom lens. If you like photographing birds and wildlife it sounds ideal on paper, but find out what we made of it in our full test. Finally Pentax has always been in the shadows of its bigger DSLR rivals, and for many years has had only a couple of models in its range at a time, but since being bought by Ricoh the range is expanding rapidly. The latest addition, the K-3, is a new flagship model sporting a 24MP sensor with no low pass filter, paired with a newly developed Shake Reduction system that cleverly reduces the risk of moiré. To find out what else it has to offer check out our hands-on preview. See you next time! Nigel Atherton, Editor |
